The mix
of students in any school, mirrors the general ethnic flavour in
society. It is important that we each take on board the differences
in individuals and value them, regardless of their background, ability,
gender, age or skin colour. Aikido encourages us
to work together with a common aim. The "speech-free" language
of Aikido embraces diversity.

1,300 pupils, 550 are bilingual and about 400 come from the Caribbean. "The assumption that children are not bright
because they can't speak English is rubbish. Education is so important to students that come from abroad. They see it as
the way out of poverty, a way of getting ahead and raising their self esteem."
