GRADING REPORT
The Sunday class at Sleeping Storm Aikido in Epsom ran as usual,
starting at 10.00am and finishing at 12.00pm. Adrian supervised the
class using the first hour to go over basics and applications and the
second part for the students to prepare for their grading. It was a good
sized class with 19 students actually on the mat.
After the class those who wanted to had a lunch break. Most people had
arrived by just after 12.30pm, so the the registration process was
started. Licences were checked and everyone was asked to fill in their
Grading Sheets. Adrian Tyndale headed the panel and the grading formally
started at 13.00pm, with all candidates demonstrating foot and hand
movements.
The grading ran smoothly with each of the three examiners, Arthur
Austin, Robert Austin & Adrian Tyndale having a batch of candidates
to look at and record each technique. Adrian reassured those taking
part, which helped them to settle. As the numbers of candidates
attempting Dan grade was higher than usual, it was decided run the high
grade katas first. There was a short break at about 15.15pm and by
16.00pm the grading was completed.
At the end of the grading each examiner summarised their view of the
day’s performances, as a general comment. It was a good grading and to
a high standard and all candidates were successful. The new grades were
announced and congratulations given in the form of applause. A
commemorative photo was taken and the BAA Licences were all signed and
returned to the candidates. Well done to the new 2nd Dan black belts,
Brian Watts, Tim McClean, Myles Glover, Sonya Poczoc and to 1st Dan
Christope Courtin.
Overall a successful grading with candidates and examiners being happy
with the venue. The next grading will be at Epsom on 25th May, 2008,
full details are published on the website events calendar.
